In this episode, Mitchell Levy, Chief Aha Instigator of the Aha Amplifier (http://AhaAmplifier.com), and his co-host for the month, #ThoughtLeader Jeff Shavitz (http://www.jeffshavitz.com), founder of TrafficJamming (http://www.trafficjamming.com), share insights with #ThoughtLeader Abe Ng, CEO of the Miami-based restaurant chain, SushiMaki (http://www.sushimaki.com). Abe talks about a few reasons why a physical connection is still important in the restaurant business. When you walk into a restaurant, the warm greetings, the chair you sit on, the sparkling clean bathrooms, etc. are part of the overall guest experience. There are important touchpoints in the restaurant business, and Abe emphasizes that one of them is having clean restrooms, because customers tend to compare that to how clean you keep your kitchen. Jeff notes that Abe’s business has been around for some time because he has a niche. Abe says that there are now different channels on how food gets delivered and it’s important to understand, for example, the take-out business and how it continues to grow. When you’re in the food industry, especially sushi, it’s important to build trustworthiness. And in the restaurant business, the biggest form of marketing is the sign on your store, the logo. This sign is your window to the world.

Instead of advertising, consider doing community-minded service and giving back to the community. Be as accessible, authentic, and approachable as possible. Build a good relationship with reporters and writers.
